A guide to the e-resources available from MALC / EIFL for partner libraries in Myanmar

Referencing and Citation

There are several specific citation guides and referencing tools which are useful for specific legal references including cases as well as journal articles. Links are provided for OSCOLA and Zotero.

Common legal referencing systems are

  • Harvard system: in text with references at end, footnotes provide essential information only, not references
  • Chicago/Turabian: full reference in footnotes/ endnotes

Common styles include:

OSCOLA

EIFL recommends the Oxford Standard for the Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA). This means if you follow OSCOLA for all the material you reference in your work, your referencing should be consistent in Myanmar law schools.

Zotero

  • Zotero is a free, open-sourced and web based citation manager. It is designed to store, manage, and cite bibliographic references, such as books and articles. It also allows you to attach PDFs, notes and images to your citations, organize them into collections for different projects, and create bibliographies. The OSCOLA style can be found under the 'documentation' tab on the Zotero website.
Zotero automatically updates itself periodically to work with new online sources and new bibliographic styles.
Further information, and a video tutorial from the creators, can be found here
Zotero has a style repository for OSCOLA
